Kevin was referred to the Moving On project in January 2011 by his general practitioner as there were concerns around a decline in his mental health.
Unfortunately Kevin had recently been made redundant from a position he had held down for twenty seven years and this effectively led to increased anxiety levels and a depressive episode The effects of the depression grew progressively worse which led to Kevin becoming increasingly isolated, this impacted greatly on his confidence and self esteem.
Kevin was initially hesitant to get involved as he had never accessed any provision like Moving On before. However after a number of sessions working directly with the staff he eventually felt comfortable enough to engage.
He engaged in activities that he enjoyed and that would build on the skills he needed for his eventual return to work. Through this Kevin became increasingly confident in the skills he had learned and in meeting new people, his isolation was reduced and his confidence was growing daily.
Today Kevin continues to attend the IT programme he was introduced to as he enjoys it so much he would not miss it, despite the fact he no longer needs the project. Moreover he is currently working in a voluntary capacity in order to keep his skills fresh for when he does return to work. Kevin has moved on considerably since first attending the project, he has recently enrolled on a prospective foster parent programme where he has been involved in group work and discussions.
Kevin feels that without attending the Moving On Project he would never have been ready to join such a programme or even consider talking within the group sessions. Today Kevin is planning to return to paid employment and is busy applying for jobs. He feels his life is now back on the right track and in his words” I know this sounds like a pun but I really do feel like I am moving on!”
