A Success Story
Jackie was referred to the Moving On Project in October 2009, with anxiety and confidence issues. Jackie began with small groups gradually gaining her confidence with others in the group and the projects she was taking part in. Jackie became an active participant in her own progression and although she found it difficult when moving into other subjects and larger groups, she took on the challenges and faced them.
During her time with Moving On Jackie took part in Art, Craft, Fabric and Sewing Skills and Auricular Acupuncture. She also took part in courses and groups at the local college gaining her Pottery and First Aid certificate. She also volunteered with the local furniture recycling centre, where she was a much liked and valuable member of the staff team.
While she was attending an Ascentis course at The Fold in Skelmersdale, one of the challenges that she set herself was to put into action the skills that she had gained while taking part in the Moving On program. She applied for a job with a local firm, to test herself and her confidence in an environment she hadn’t put herself in, in a long time.
She attended the interview, and was successful. She is now in full time employment, and has recently secured premises for a social enterprise she has been heavily involved in setting up, and will be helping run with the support of the Moving on Project.
Jackie’s Words
"If it wasn’t for Moving On, I wouldn’t like to think what would have happened to me at that time in my life. I came to Moving On not knowing anything about what they did, or how they could help me overcome my problems; as soon as I walked in I couldn’t have envisaged how my life was going to change. I started in an Art class on a Friday, and felt so relaxed, as everyone in the class had something they were personally dealing with. If you felt like a cry or just needed space nobody judged you. I built up to classes four times a week, which built up my confidence and to be honest, gave me, a purpose in my life. Even though I have now “moved on”, Moving On still supports me in everything I do. I know I can call in or ring up, and they help me anyway they can." |
