Barbara had been diagnosed with ME and had mobility problems. She became very depressed, after being confined to her home for 9 months. She started to attend group sessions at Moving On in The Fold, Skelmersdale, and after a period of time asked if she could do something outside. Moving On involved her in the initial stages of vegetable growing in the land outside.

This activity lifted her depression, and now three years later, she is the senior grower in the allotment at The Fold. Through her efforts and some grant funding the allotment has grown into a thriving community project which supplies home grown vegetables to other projects and the wider community.

She is presently in talks with two local head teachers with a view to her developing the allotment project in some of the local schools. She is also involved with local horticulture nurseries and develops areas within her local community whilst supervising and educating local people about gardening and vegetable growing.

Today she has a busy but happy life and points out that she may not have had all this without the support and guidance she received from the Moving on Project. Moreover she stated that Moving On was her lifeline and to some extent still is today!
